Despite what people might tell you, it turns out; there are a lot of secrets when it comes to beer pong. What seems like a simple game from the outside, there are plenty of complex strategies and techniques involved in it, especially if you want to compete with the big boys. And we are here to help you along the way.
Beer pong is a fun party game, and you should never forget that. Even if you prefer a more competitive approach to it, you should always remember to have fun. That being said, there are no rules that say you cannot have fun while winning.
So, without further ado, here are a few tips and strategies to help you improve your beer pong game and take your skills to the next level.
Tips to Improve Your Beer Pong game
To become the best beer pong player, you need to rethink your view of the game. You need to revamp your technique, strategize, and, most importantly, practice whenever you get the chance. There is no alternative to hard work, and that is our first pro tip.
However, some techniques and strategies that you did not know about previously can drastically improve your gameplay when you start using them. In the following section of the article, we will go through them one by one to help you improve your beer pong game.
Learn the House Rules
Before heading into a game, make sure you learn the rules of the house. Beer pong has many weird rules that some tend to follow while others do not. However, if the host of the game allows certain rules such as leaning, you should ask about it beforehand and take full advantage of it.
Even the WSOBP regulations allow for leaning. If the house rules have no restrictions against it, you can move a few inches closer to the cups by leaning forward and standing on one toe. Learning to balance yourself will significantly help you out in this case.
Control Your Arc
If you want to get good at the game, you need to learn to control the arc of the ball. Arcing your ball higher will help you to hit random cups, which can be useful in the beginning when more cups are in play. But as the game goes on and cups are removed, you will find yourself in a tough spot.
Any beer pong player worth his salt will try to keep the arc to a minimum for the highest accuracy. When practicing, make sure you try to hit a specific cup instead of random ones. It will help improve your accuracy, and control your arc so that the “random factor” in your shot gets eliminated
Consistency Is The Key
Your techniques and style should be consistent in any situation. That means you should not bend more or less than usual, even under pressure. The angle of your arm and wrist when shooting also needs to be the same whenever you are playing. Your form and stability will define your skill in the long run.
One way to learn proper form is to look at dart players. Look at their position when they throw the dart and notice the consistency. That is what you are aiming for in your posture. Find out your most comfortable throwing position and stick with it while you develop your skills.
Choose Your Partner Wisely
No matter how good of a player you are, beer pong is a team sport. Your partner also makes the shot, and you need to make sure he is capable of backing you up when the time calls for it. It is crucial that you find a player who compliments your strengths and weaknesses.
Look for someone who has excellent hand-eye coordination, as that is one of the detrimental factors of becoming a good player. Also, finding someone who can hold his beer well is a must. The last thing you want is your partner missing shots because he is seeing doubles.
Shooting Order
When you find the perfect partner, your shooting order should be the next thing you figure out. Ideally, the one with better accuracy should go second. That way, the one with the weaker aim will have an easier shot while the harder shot will be taken by the stronger player.
It is especially important if the two-shot rule is in play. If the player with the better aim can hit the same cup as the first player, you will essentially remove three cups from the opponent, giving you a strong head start.
Rack Management
Rack management is crucial in order to get better at the game. Yes, aiming for the middle cups is easier since you have less room for errors, but you might end up messing up the arrangement making the late game harder for you and your partner. So it would help if you had a plan before you start shooting at random.
A good idea is to start with the front-most cups. In 10 cup games, you should be able to hit the front row quite easily and work from there until you need to call for a rerack. When you are down to six cups, you can rerack them and make the late game easy for yourself.
Occasional Taunting Never Hurts
While some may think of it as dishonorable, occasionally messing with your opponent can give you an edge. However, you should know your limits and make sure that you are not exceeding that. Some minor taunting might make your opponent nervous, especially after you make a difficult shot.
But you need to also be able to take it if you dish it out. Remember that if you attack first, your opponent can strike back, and you need to be relaxed and in control of your emotions when playing. Otherwise, your nerves might get the better of you and, combined with the booze, cause you to miss.
Use the Water Bowl

Always clean the ball in the water bowl before making a shot. Not only is it more hygienic, but some players also claim the added weight of the water may favor the control. Since a thin coating of water is added to the ball, it makes it easier to take the shot.
Regardless of whether it is true, you should always dunk it in water. Although it will not completely sanitize it, at least, you will be able to get rid of dirt or pet hairs laying around the floor.

Walk into any pub in the world and more likely than not, alongside a bar, a couple of taps, and some beaten up stools, there’ll be a dartboard somewhere in the establishment. In addition to being a professional sport, darts is also a classic pub game all over the Northern Hemisphere. It’s one of the few things the Scandinavians, the Irish, the Germans, and even the Americans all have in common. The game consists of throwing small “missiles” at a circular, fixed board, and can be played with as few as two people or as many as two full teams. So where exactly did one of our most beloved bar games start?
Darts originated in the U.K. sometime in the mid-19th century. It’s been said that the game first started with soldiers throwing short arrows at tree trunks or the bottom of a barrel. Wood would dry out and cracks would form, creating “sections” on their makeshift boards. Apparently some woodworkers even began paying their bar bills by making homemade dartboards and giving them to pubs! Dartboards used to be called “butts,” coming from the French word for target. The first set of proper darts was crafted using wood, lead for weight, and turkey feathers.
Darts Rules & Basics

Many variations of darts exist, though the most commonly played version is 501. The correct placement of a fixed dartboard is 5 feet 8 inches from the ground, with the bullseye being the point of reference. The proper distance between player and board, from toeline to front of board, is just over 7 feet 9 inches.
According to the Professional Darts Corporation, each team (or individual player) starts out at 501, with the goal of working their way down to zero. Teams alternate taking turns, with each turn consisting of three dart throws per turn. At the end of each turn, the total number accrued from the three darts thrown is subtracted from 501; the bullseye is worth 50 points. The catch, however, is that in order to win, the final thrower on the team must reach zero with a double. That’s to say, if the team has 20 points left, the final thrower must hit the 10 twice. For odd numbers, the first dart must be used to change the number to an even (example, starting with 25 and scoring 5 points), then the doubling on the last two throws. Some variations of the game call for a “double start,” which incorporates this final process at the beginning as well. This is referred to as the “double in, double out” rule. Whichever team hits zero first wins. If neither team gets to zero in 20 turns, the team with the lower number of points wins. If the scores are tied at 20 turns, 10 additional rounds will be played. At 30 rounds, if the scores are still equal, the match concludes with a draw.
