Maybelline Colorsensational Lipstick in Hooked on Pink: This is the prettiest pink in Maybelline’s. Review by Agnirupa MAC Strength Collection Lipstick Pink Pigeon Let's face the truth about LE things, its not a good idea.Atleast, it might be a mighty marketing strategy of the bigwigs but for us- the poor, crazy, tortured make up addicts:( make up when it comes in limited editions is not at all good news.:( And oh well:-/ don't we know how much MAC loves their LE collections.bursting. Mac pink pigeon lipstick review Pink Pigeon is a bright pink that might not suit dusky Indian skin tones but will look great on fair to medium skin tones. The shade in bright sunny weather looks awesome. It looks so neon pink. MAC Pink Pigeon is fun and bright pink lip color that in some lots will appear to be on the neon side of the pink spectrum. This pink is best suited for the cool-toned girls because this color has blue undertones and the finish is a matte but to me, it feels more like a cream finish but after hours of wear, it will settle into your lips as a. A deep magenta, like the colour of blueberry jam, this one is a berry pink on most Indian skin tones. Finish and texture: Due to the sheen of this lipstick, the colour payoff is really sheer.

Pink

As I have mentioned in my previous post on M.A.C Cinderella Collection, I have purchased quite a few M.A.C lipsticks in shades ranging from nudes to reds and oranges and pinks to purples. I bought these colours after quite extensive research prior to purchasing them. I believe that one of my defining features are my lips, which I like accentuating with bright colours . If you feel the same way or want to experiment with colour, then read on!

One of the reasons I chose M.A.C for purchasing my lipstick is because of the quality and colour range that they provide. Having said that, I do feel the need to stress that ideally these should be chosen in store to ensure that they have the correct finish and tone that you may require.

Personally, I do have favourites, and I tend to gravitate towards them for my everyday look. I think for my South Asian skin tone, which has yellow undertones, colours such as ‘Yash’, ‘Morange’, ‘Ruby Woo’ and ‘Show Orchid’ really make my face look brighter. I have also begun to become braver in my choice of lipstick, so I like to rock ‘Up the Amp’ from time to time, to have a go at using some of my purple toned lipsticks.

Be bright, bold and beautiful

I think one of the great things about having Indian skin tones is being able to wear bolder and more vibrant colours whether it comes from wearing clothes or makeup. These jewel colours make yellow toned skin glow and photograph well.

I would like to add that bolder colours look great with simple graphic liner and a skin toned base for eyeliner. I use a contour shade to define my crease and a one shade lighter toned eyeshadow for the mobile part of my lid before I add the liner as my final step.

In the picture below, I have demonstrated the use of a bold lip with a simple eyeliner that I feel can be worn as part of a simple yet bold look for work or a formal occasion. In fact this is what I wore for my graduation! ( see pictures below)

One of my favourite colours in my M.A.C lipstick collections: Morange

M.A.C Nude shades

These are a selection of the nude shades that I own. Quite a lot of them have pink tones in them which suit me when I am not tanned. I tend to modify the colour a little bit with a brown lip liner to add more dimension to my lips as some colours can appear a little flat on their own. In my experience colours such as Oxblood (Limited edition ‘Toledo’ collection’) and ‘Brave’ and ‘Craving’ tend to do this. If you are looking for that Kylie Jenner lip, ‘Brave’ is usually cited as the colour that she uses. I think, however, on Asian skin tones similar to mine, they do come across as being pinker toned rather than that 90’s brown toned nude that she favours. This is why I feel it’s really important to try before you buy (if you can) as these colours can look startlingly different on different people.

So where can I find that perfect nude for my skin tone?

Starting from bottom left: Royal Ball (nude pink), Yash (Nude Peach Brown), Oxblood (Pink toned nude), Craving (Mauve- pink), Brave (mauve), Faux (Pink),Hug Me (lustre pink nude).

I do think that for Asian skin tones it’s very difficult to find nude lipsticks that doesn’t give you an unflattering white cast on your lips. As far as I can tell, from the M.A.C collection at least, that ‘Yash’ proves to be the exception to the rule. This doesn’t surprise me as the colour was released as part of the ‘Mickey Contractor for M.A.C’ collection. If you don’t know who Mickey Contractor is, he is a famous makeup artist for Bollywood, and he has worked with countless women who have Indian skin tones. Therefore, he naturally understands the complexity of colours that can be found in their skin tones. If you need a benchmark to compare against other well known nude lipsticks in the M.A.C lipstick collections then,’Yash’ is to Indian skin tones as ‘Myth’ is to fairer skin tones.

M.A.C Pinks and Purples

If you’re ready for that bolder look, then these beautiful bright shades of intense pinks and purples can look great. Especially when you wear bright, bold colours that are found in Indian clothing. My personal favourites from this collection are ‘Show Orchid’ and ‘Up the Amp’. These colours are bright, vibrant and dual-toned which adds depth and dimension without the need to use a lip liner. Some colours like ‘Impassioned’, which is often described as a shocking pink has more of a red undertone (on me) and Rebel that is supposed to be ‘berry’ toned comes across a lot darker and close to burgundy rather than purple on me. When scouring the internet for these colours it’s very difficult to gauge what colours might look like and for me it can sometimes be a quite misleading. However, if you do end up purchasing a colour that is not quite what you’re looking for you can use a lip liner in the colour that you do want, to modify the colour that you are wearing.

From bottom left: Impassioned (Amplified red pink) Pink Pigeon (True Neon Pink), Show Orchid (Blue toned shocking pink), Up the Amp (Lilac-purple),Heroine (True purple), Rebel (Deep berry purple)

M.A.C Reds and Oranges

True reds and the ‘Morange’ alternative:

If you are looking for that true classic red, then the iconic ‘Ruby Woo’ is the lipstick for you. The colour comes out as a true red on my skin tone. It is a very classic colour that can be worn with a graphic liner or made up in conjunction from golds, bronzes and rose-hued colours to greys, purples, blues and black for eyeshadow. The other reds that I own are much deeper in colour on me. Be wary if your natural skin colour is not too deep as mid tone yellows run the danger of having these colours look muddy against their skin. I found this true for the colour ‘Sin’ and ‘Dare you’. Again the way that I make the colours work for me is by using a lip liner with the colour that I want my lips to be. Oranges were a recent trend in fashion, but can be used as a great colour for spring. They are a great alternative to the formal red colour and can lighten and brighten a look tremendously!

So that rounds up my collection so far as it stands. Please note that this excludes my limited editon lipsticks which may or may not be featured in M.A.C’s permanent collection.

Thanks for reading this post, if you have any questions or comments, please post them below,I hope you have a great day!

Lots of love,

Abi

Review, Swatches and Dupe of MAC Lipstick Pink Pigeon

By Contributor: Samannita

When it comes to lipsticks I am always obsessed with pink shades, I don’t know why I always end up by buying the same shades from different brands. And here is the example of my stupid obsession..although I have Daddy’s Little Girl, Love Forever from MAC, I was still craving from Pink Pigeon. Pink pigeon is a Limited edition shade from Strength collection. And people like me are mad about LEs. And when it is a bright pink like Pink Pigeon, I guess the shade itself will say everything. Let’s start with my review and swatches.

MAC Claims: Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M.A.C famous. Totally true for this lipstick

Pink Pigeon is a bright pink that might not suit dusky Indian skin tones but will look great on fair to medium skin tones. The shade in bright sunny weather looks awesome. It looks so neon pink on me which I really love. But the shade is such a chameleon..it looks different in different lights. But whatever the shade looks on me in whatever light I just love to see my lips again and again in my hand mirror that I always carry in my handbag! The pigmentation of the lipstick is awesome. A single swipe is enough to get the actual shade of the lipstick.

The finish is matte and the texture is so smooth. I don’t feel any pulling or tugging on my lips while applying the lipstick. As the lipstick is matte so application of lip balm prior to applying the lipstick is suggested for dry lips. And proper exfoliation is must before applying this lipstick else one will end up with flaky lips. The fragnance of the lipstick is the usual vanilla scent that vanishes within few minutes of application thus it is good for people with sensitive nose like me..as I don’t use a lot of my lipsticks due to their fragnance which I can’t tolerate. Anyways coming to the review again!

The staying power of the lipstick is pretty good. It stays for more than 6 hours on me and fades away leaving a nice light pink tint on my lips.

The lipstick although being a limited edition comes in the regular packaging of MAC lipsticks, but the shade always matters more than the packaging. And who wants to spend extra bucks just for the packaging? So I am really happy that the price was not increased for being limited edition.
